The North Coast
Sport Academy
This sport and youth empowerment programme hails from the small village of La Fillette, Blanchisseuse in Trinidad, and was established as an NGO in 2014. Their mission is that through sport the youth will learn valuable skills that aid in their spiritual, personal and cultural development which will allow them to become productive citizens.
One of their many projects is the Primary School Sport Programme where four (4) schools namely Las Cuevas Primary School, La Fillette R.C Primary School, Blanchisseuse Primary School and Brasso Seco R.C Primary School participate in football, netball and cricket tournaments throughout the year. An event that is a mainstay within the community. The athletes of the academy have travelled across the country participating in various sports, with much success. Their netball team is the champion at the Port of Spain Netball League in the under 16 age group category.
Under the guidance of the president Mrs. Nikeisha Felix-Lewis and the Board of Directors the children and youth of the academy do not only participate in sport but with the help of Digicel they were able to create an Edible Park and beautification project within the community where they were able to plant vegetables and fruits, a first of its kind in the community. They have been working in communities in the North Coast holding food drives, backpack giveaways and bringing community members together. The North Coast Sport Academy is determined to create future leaders by building character, increasing participation in sport, and displaying the rich culture of the fishing village of Blanchisseuse.
Their mission is that through sport the youth will learn valuable skills that aid in their spiritual, personal and cultural development which will allow them to become productive citizens.
