Mushtaque Mohammed
Mushtaque Mohammed is currently a Vice President for the International Volleyball Federation and also the president of the Development Commission. He has been involved in Sports Administration over 35 years as a volunteer, since his profession was a school teacher. He played the sport of cricket and volleyball in his early career but emerged as a Volleyball Administrator since it has always been a passion. When he began in sport administration, he had no formal training in this field it was a self-taught journey for a long time. In 1988, he was elected as the Assistant Secretary of the Trinidad and Tobago Volleyball Federation (TTVF) and by May 1989 he was promoted to Secretary General. In 1992 he was elected as President and held this office until 2012. He joined the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee in 1997 as an Executive Member, served until 2005 and was then elected as Vice President for 8 years until April 2013.
In 1994, he was elected as the first president of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association and in 1996, was elected as Vice President of the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) and member of various commission with NORCECA a position he still holds.
Mr. Mohammed has Executive Masters in Sports Administration from the University of Poitiers, France and an International Masters in Sports for Development from the University of Trinidad and Tobago. He a retired School teacher, taught Construction Material Science, Environmental Science and other courses in the Construction Engineering programme at the Technical Institute of Trinidad and Tobago.
Currently, he is lecturing at the University of Trinidad and Tobago in Leisure, Sports Tourism and the Environment, Sport Event Management and Sport Facilities and Design
Mr. Mohammed strongly believes that Sport is an avenue to assist the development of people not only physically but also to shape the characters and wellbeing. In a society where there is so much need for mentoring of youths, he has decided to dedicate his efforts towards making this contribution. It has been a rewarding experience so far though sometimes challenging to continue but he is committed to making this contribution towards the development of the leaders of the future.
