Clayton Morris

Mr. Clayton Morris is a former Trinidad and Tobago National Football player who became a household name during the reign of the famous 1989 Strike Squad. To those of us old enough to remember, this was the team that took us on an exhilarating journey on the Road to Italy.

Clayton Morris played for several teams throughout his active career such as:

St Ann’s Rangers Under-13, 15, 19 and senior teams , John Donaldson Technical Institute, Trintoc, United Petrotrin, ASL Sports Club, Soul City, ECM Motown and Charlotte Eagles Soccer Club in the United States of America

He represented Trinidad and Tobago National Under-19 team from 1979—1981, and continued to showcase his talents at the senior level for ten (10) years, which included the captaincy of the Trinidad and Tobago Senior National Football Team for (5) years. He played over 100 games for his country.

One of the top five Trinidad and Tobago footballers in 1982 and footballer of the year 1988.

Clayton Morris switched position from player to tutor, and in his post football career earned the opportunity to coach the Trinidad and Tobago National Under-20 and Senior National teams, schooling prominent players such as Kenwyn Jones, Brent Sancho, Marvin Andrews, Russell Latapy, Dwight Yorke and Shaka Hislop.

Mr. Morris was also the coach of the first ever Trinidad and Tobago National Men’s Futsal Team, Caribbean Football Union Champions 2004 and 2008.

Skipper, as he popularly called, is at present the Football Coach at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).

Clayton Morris was inducted into the First Citizen Foundation’s Sports Hall of Fame 2015 for his contribution in the area of football. He also received the Doctor Eric Williams Father of the Nation Medal of Honour Gold 2020 for his contribution to Public Service, Community Development and Trinidad and Tobago Football.

He believes that discipline is not the only basis for success in sports, but also the best foundation for success in life.

He delivers motivational speeches to young persons of every walk of life, including convicted prisoners throughout the nation’s prisons, and continues to share his experience and knowledge of the sport of football/futsal.
