Joyce Thomas

Joyce Thomas is an accomplished sport professional with over 25 years experience in sporting endeavours that include track and field athletics, field hockey and coaching. Ms Thomas is a scholar, having attained her Diploma in Education at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine and both Bachelors in Physical Education and Masters in Educational Foundations at the University of New Brunswick, Canada.

As recently as 2019 Ms. Thomas was awarded for 24 years of Dedicated and Sacrificial Commitment to Field Events Coaching from the UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre (UWISPEC). In 2016 Ms. Thomas won four (4) Gold Medals at the National Seniors Games in Barbados, having previously achieved Gold at World Masters Track and Field Championships in Australia 2001. That year, she was also the first female athlete from Trinidad and Tobago to win gold at the Masters level. In 2010 and 2006, Ms. Thomas was the recipient of the National Association of Athletics Administration (NAAA), award for Long and dedicated Service to Track and Field.

As both competitor and coach, Ms. Thomas has continued to represent and serve Trinidad and Tobago. To date she has assisted students to attain scholarships to pursue their sporting careers at USA universities. Currently some of her students are enrolled at UWI and she is coaching a Masters athlete who has won Gold Medals at European Indoor Championships.

Ms Thomas has stated that she motivates her athletes by continuing to compete at the Masters level in throwing events. Ms. Thomas is currently the holder of three records in throwing events in the World Huntsman Games in Utah and the National Senior Games in the USA. She continues to serve Trinidad and Tobago by preparing Physical Education students for success in CSEC and CAPE.
