Mahavin Specialist

Cricket School

Mr. Vinood Maharaj is the founder and head coach of Mahavin Specialist Cricket School which operates at the Las Lomas No. 2 Recreation Ground. His philosophy is to be a proactive coach considering the best practices in coaching and execute them at an athletes’ level in order to provide quality coaching. He believes this will ensure innovation while remaining athlete-centered. For him, individuals give their best when they can compete in a safe and enjoyable environment. In keeping with international standards, video analysis of players’ technique is incorporated.

The Mahavin Specialist Cricket School was born out of his passion for using sports for development. His vision is to utilise the sport of cricket not only to unlock individuals’ fullest potential but to also mold exemplary human beings. Human beings that will portray core values in society such as respect, honesty, discipline, responsibility and accountability. Moreover, Mr. Maharaj saw the need to provide his expertise to his community that lacked such a cricket programme, which he fondly remembered participating in during his youth days.

This programme caters for both male and female cricketers from as early as six years of age to adults through all levels of the skill learning phases. These skill learning phases consist of the cognitive (beginners), associative (intermediate) and autonomous (expert) stages of skill learning. Thus far the programme yielded its vision and goals by producing cricketers at various representative levels in Trinindad and Tobago as well as model student-athletes obtaining awards for discipline and academic excellence. For instance the school can boast of Tyler Ramroop the top male 2021 SEA student. Additionally, Justine Jagessar is now training with the West Indies Youth Team in preparation for ICC under 19 World Cup 2022. Justin Manick and Rajiv Ramnath are involved with the National Senior Team Trials while Kavir Boodoosingh, Fareez Ali, Alexander Chase and Samir Ali all gained selection on national youth teams.
