Mark Mungal
Mark Mungal brings two decades of experience leading multi-country sport and development initiatives in the Caribbean, working collaboratively with inter-governmental agencies and global sport partners to strengthen capacity of the sport sector in the Caribbean region where he is based.
Mark is a co-founder and former director of the Caribbean Sport and Development Agency (CSDA), a former National Youth Coach, Technical Director and Sport Administrator in the sport of volleyball and is presently serving as a Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Canoe and Rowing Federation. Before taking up responsibilities as Regional Coordinator of the Australian Caribbean Community Sport Development Program in July 2003, Mark served as a Teacher Educator at the Physical Education Department at Corinth Teachers’ College in South Trinidad. Mark has also been a part-time lecturer at the Sport and Physical Education Department of the University of the West Indies and played a lead role in the development of academic programs in sport, physical education and sport for development at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, the University of the West Indies and the Regional Sports Academy (Suriname).
Recognised as a thought-leader in the international sport for development fraternity, Mark has served on several international, regional and national agencies over the years, including the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport (CABOS), the CARICOM Physical Education and Sport Advisory Committee, the CARICOM Task Force for Child Rights and Child Protection and the UNICEF International Safeguarding Children in Sport Advisory Board. Mark is presently serving on the Safe Sport International Advisory Committee, IOC Safeguarding Certificate Academic Advisory Board and FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma Reference Group.
Mark’s core work is in the national, regional and global sport and development sector and includes capacity building, policy development and sport sector strategic planning with a strong focus on the use of sport as a tool for personal, community, national and global development. Mark continues to support the safeguarding and protection of children in and through sport, working with local, regional and international stakeholders to strengthen safeguards for children and adults in sport. Mark is also an advocate for youth leadership through sport and the promotion of physical education, physical activity and sport in schools and communities in efforts to address non-communicable diseases.

Mark is also an avid (recreational) athlete and enjoys playing a wide range of sports (and as often as possible).
