Mr. Roger Ekow Watts
M.Ed., M.Sc.
Mr. Roger Ekow Watts is a passionate educator and administrator who over the last twelve (12) years has worked at UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC) then at the UWI Open Campus Academy of Sport (OCAS) and the Sport Management Post Graduate Degree Programme run by the Department of Management Studies at UWI. Mr. Watts is a graduate of The University of the West Indies in Barbados where he completed his B.Sc. in Economics and Law, participated in triathlons and played football. After graduating from the University of the West Indies Mr. Watts distinguished himself as an A-level teacher of Economics, Business and Social Studies at Trinity College Maraval. At Trinity College. Mr. Watts was also recognized as the Manager of the school's football team. From Trinity College, Mr. Watts went on to the International School of Port of Spain (ISPS) to teach Social Studies, History and International Studies. He also coached the school’s football team to a regional championship. At ISPS Mr. Watts also pursued and completed an in-service Masters degree in Education.
Armed with his Masters degree in Education, Mr. Watts left the International School to teach at Malick Secondary Comprehensive School, which is located in a low income suburb of Port of Spain. Mr. Watts also joined the coaching staff at Malick and became part of the school’s very successful football team. His experience at Malick became the focus of his Research Project in the Master of Science in Organizational Management and Leadership at the Tampa Bay campus of Springfield College. Mr. Watts’ Research Project on Supervising Student Athletes was selected as the best research project from the Tampa Bay Campus.
Mr Watts has also completed a MSc. degree in Organizational Management. He currently teaches in a blended face-to-face and online post graduate diploma in Sport Management on the St Augustine Campus and also in the UWI Open Campus’ BSc. programme in Sport Coaching. He has been appointed the Academic Programme Coordinator at the Open Campus Academy of Sport where he is a strong advocate for increasing the use of distance and online learning to increase the access of marginal communities to the wealth of academic programming available at UWI. It is with continuing collegial comradery and collaboration that we appreciate Mr Roger Ekow Watts contribution to the Task Force and the work of the Conference Secretariat.
